Location

● Port Belene NPP is located on the right bank of river Danube, 567 km from its delta. Exact coordinates are N 43°38'10" by E 25°12'30“.
● Port is connected with the Bulgarian rail network, allowing easy transfer of cargo from ships to trucks or trains and vice versa.
● No major highways in the region which allows for easier road transport of extra heavy and oversized loads.
● Port is reachable by both river ships and sea-river ships (up to 3000 tons GRT, able to reach Caspian sea without further transshipments).
● Available rail access within crane reach - quite convenient for transshipment of heavy and oversized cargoes from trucks/wagons to ships and back or from river barges/ships to sea-river ships, thus making possible and quite cost effective delivery of big project cargoes with transshipment in Belene to sea-river ships (without using the expensive traditional seaway by geared ship transport), via the following routes:
     ▪ by river from EU countries located along Danube, Main, Rhine rivers (transhipment in Belene to trailers or rail wagons) and further to Bulgarian territory (or vice-versa).
     ▪ from Bulgaria or black sea area (transhipment in Belene from small river-sea ships to river barges) and then via Danube, Main canal and Rhine river to Rotterdam/Antwerp (or vice-versa).
     ▪ from EU countries located along Danube (transhipment in Belene to small river-sea ships) to Black sea or further via Azov sea to Caspian sea (Rusia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaidjan, Turkmenistan), without other transshipments (or vice-versa).
     ▪ from EU countries located along Danube (transhipment in Belene to small river-sea ships) to Black sea and further via Volga and Don rivers to continental part of Russia, without other transshipments (or vice-versa).
     ▪ from EU countries located along Danube (transhipment in Belene to small river-sea ships) to Black sea and further via Dnepr river to continental part of Ukraine, without other transshipments (or vice-versa).
Other delivery schemes may also become possible and cost effective using Heavy Lift Port Belene NPP as transshipment port.
